Artist Statement
My paintings look to investigate the subconscious marks left on our memory. I begin a piece with an intuitive approach where I encourage diluted washes of paint to stain and leave impressions on the canvas. This allows me to immerse myself in that moment and have the piece reveal itself to me. As layers are added distorted scenes come into focus, similarly to that of recalling a long ago memory. This blurring of the lines between the past and present, real and imagined, is one that I find very exciting and which brings me back to my art making practice time and time again.
A connection to the natural world highly influences my work with odes to the elements often find their way into my work via both composition and colour palette.
