‘The Sky’s Lullaby’

Saint Cloche, Paddington Sydney, February 2023

THE SKY’S LULLABY

She is not empty nor hollow.

She is calm and purposely blank.

Waiting for golden hues to follow,

Til then the silence she will bank.

For her stars kept her awake last night.

Their shine is too bright to contain.

She wonders “How it is that I might,

Rise to the challenge once again?”

Each day she paints the moments she wishes she could live,

Hoping someone will find comfort in her hues.

This is all she knows how to give,

Among the pink, maroon and blue.

A reminder that there’s beauty in chaos.

Each night a blank canvas once more.

Paint washed away by raindrops.

A lullaby through the beautiful storm.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Over the past months I have been working outdoors on my veranda surrounded by the ever changing weather. Becoming much more in-tune with the elements I found that they informed how I worked throughout the course of the day. The idea of the sky as a separate identity within my practice started to take shape. I imagined a mater- nal figure looking down on us, a helpless bystander to the world’s joy and pain. Her moods reflected in the changing hues and her thoughts passing by in the clouds. This concept is reflected throughout this body of work as I explore some new mediums such as poetry and installation art.
